Introducing Deducto: A Promotions Engine for Ecommerce Teams

The Promotions Problem We Kept Running Into
Most discount and promotion tools fit one of two descriptions: too basic to handle anything beyond straightforward percentage-off rules, or too expensive because they bundle enterprise features that most retailers don’t need and will never use.
Fontis has been building ecommerce systems for Australian retailers for over two decades, and promotions logic is one area where requirements consistently outpaced what available tools could handle. Cart rules with multiple nested conditions, customer-segment targeting, margin safeguards, and campaign versioning are all standard requirements for serious retailers, yet putting them together without writing custom code was either impossible or prohibitively expensive.
Several years ago, we built Deducto to fill that gap: a discounting engine running on the Fontis Commerce Stack. It has since grown into a full promotions platform, and we’ve spun it out as a standalone service so any ecommerce business can use it.
What Deducto Does
Deducto is built around an advanced rule builder. You define conditions (cart value, product attributes, address, or any other data point from your store), then choose which discount applies. Promotions can be tiered discounts, bundle deals, exclusive coupons, or shipping offers, and they can be stacked, mixed, or run individually within a single campaign.
Capabilities at a glance:
- Complex nested if/then/and/or conditions across cart-level and product-level data
- Custom product and cart attribute targeting
- Coupon generation, import, and export at scale, up to millions of codes in seconds, with per-coupon and per-email usage limits
- Stacking controls that set whether promotions combine or apply exclusively, and in what priority order
- Scheduled promotions with start and end dates
- Margin safeguards that cap maximum discount amounts across a transaction
- Multiple stores and currencies managed from one dashboard
- Version tracking and rollback for every change to promotions you make
The API lets developers integrate Deducto into any ecommerce platform you’re using (we’re using it for Fontis Commerce Stack, WooCommerce, and Shopify websites).
Some examples of what Deducto makes possible:
- Spend $100 and add any red product to cart, get free shipping.
- Automatically generate two million unique coupon codes for $10 off a customer’s first order over $150.
- Purchase any three socks from a category for $30.
On most other tools, rules like these require custom development. With Deducto they’re configuration, and you can browse plenty more on the templates page.
In Production on Large Retail Sites
Deducto is already in use on a number of high-traffic, high-profile sites. It’s currently powering promotions on the sites of large Australian and international retailers.
That production history shaped the product in ways that building from scratch to a spec wouldn’t have. Version tracking and rollback came directly from watching teams lose confidence in their promotion configs after changes went wrong and couldn’t be traced. Margin safeguard controls came from watching discounts go further than intended. These are the kinds of problems that only surface at real scale, and they’re now solved in the product rather than worked around by each new customer.
Who It’s For
Deducto suits teams who’ve outgrown flat percentage-off discounts and want to run genuinely complex promotions, targeting specific products or segments, varying offers by condition, generating and managing coupon codes at scale, and controlling how multiple promotions stack and interact.
Ecommerce managers running multi-campaign schedules can adjust rules without waiting on a developer for every change. Brand marketers can build promotions that actually differentiate, combining conditions in ways that most tools simply won’t support. Brand strategists can use customer data to create personalised incentives that go well beyond a generic coupon code.
Now Available for Shopify and Direct API Integration
Deducto is available now on the Shopify App Store. Teams on other platforms, or those wanting tighter control over how promotions run, can integrate Deducto directly through its API, connecting the same engine straight to their store or backend.
There’s a free tier to get started (three active promotions, no time limit), with paid plans as your needs grow and enterprise pricing for high-volume stores with custom requirements. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.
